1. Are we in control of our own decisions?
Dan Ariely
Think you know what you want? Think again. In this somewhat humorous talk, Dan Ariely demonstrates right before your very own eyes…your very own “broken” decision-making mechanisms. Thankfully, he doesn’t leave you with just a new thing to feel bad about, but gives some tips on how you can notice it (to stop it), and wield it to your advantage.
2. How to change your behavior for the better
Dan Ariely
3. Everything you think you know about addiction is wrong
Johann Hari
Rightly, there is enough talk about our use of food as a coping mechanism that we actually have a bonified term for it: “stress-eating.” We also call it emotional eating, disordered eating, and even addictive eating…but what if we’re failing to break the cycle because we’ve been looking at addiction all wrong? That’s what Johann Hari wants to help you with in this brilliant and zero-fluff talk.
Hari says, “The opposite of addiction is not sobriety. The opposite of addiction is connection.”
Drops the mic. ‘Nuff said. This talk will change your perspective on addictive or emotional eating, and may even change your life.
4. A simple way to break a bad habit
Judson Brewer
I love how Brewer so profoundly but quickly breaks down, first, what got you into the mess (bad habit) in the first place…and then offers you a powerful solution that you can do right now…or…right after you watch his talk.
5. Why dieting doesn’t usually work?
Sandra Aamodt
I love when people find solutions that are counter-intuitive…or at least…the opposite of what most people think. This is partly because…well…I’ve come to, at least initially, distrust any kind of herd mentality.
That said, Sandra Aamodt briefly but beautifully explains here…not just what doesn’t work…but what works 100x better…
And she has actual data and evidence to prove it.
Incidentally, her answer to the “diet” problem is also a primary focus of my Personal Nutrition + Fitness Coaching Program, where you get to have me by your side exponentially increasing your chances of success with just the sort of improvements our awesome Ted talkers suggest. You don’t have to decide right now. Just go check it out.
